Unique Luxury Suites in the Heart of Mantua

Nestled in the historic center of Mantua—an enchanting UNESCO World Heritage Site—Palazzo Castiglioni offers a rare blend of medieval grandeur and modern elegance. This 12th-century palace, once home to the ruling Bonacolsi family, is today the private residence of the Castiglioni family, who have lived here continuously since 1780. Descendants of the renowned Renaissance scholar Baldassare Castiglione, author of Il Cortegiano, they preserve the legacy of one of Mantua’s most iconic landmarks. The Palace has been meticulously restored to house six independent luxury suites, each with private access and premium services including breakfast, daily cleaning, and a resident manager. It’s a refined Boutique B&B experience.

Location
The Palace enjoys a privileged position in the heart of Mantua, a UNESCO World Heritage city rich in history, art, and culture.
Its strategic location makes it an ideal base for exploring Northern Italy: Verona can be reached in just 30 minutes by car or 40 minutes by train, Lake Garda is about 40 km away, and the rolling hills of Valpolicella, famous for their renowned wineries, are just 50 minutes from the city.
Venice lies approximately 156 km away, making it perfect for a memorable day trip.

The Suites
Palazzo Castiglioni offers six spacious suites ranging from 40 to 60 square meters, accommodating up to 18 guests in total. Each suite, redesigned by Italian interior designer Filippo Feroldi, showcases opulent fabrics, elegant archways, and breathtaking views of Piazza Sordello and the Ducal Palace. Amenities include luxury bedding, minibar, executive desk, living area, air conditioning, Sky TV, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Interior Description

Welcome to the Palace

Guests enter the Palace through impressive wooden doors and pass along an elegant garden, where parking is available.

Each suite has an independent entrance, and the accommodations are distributed across different levels of the building.

In the Piano Nobile Wing, the Aquila suite is located on the ground floor, while Celeste, Leone, and Arco are on the second floor. In the Torre Wing, the Glicine and Torre suites occupy the third and fourth floors respectively.

All suites (except Aquila) are accessible by elevator. Please note that Aquila and Torre feature internal staircases and may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Every suite offers air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and a small refrigerator for guests’ comfort.

PIANO NOBILE WING
The Piano Nobile – Events & Celebrations

The Piano Nobile, available for private events, weddings, and anniversaries, is a magnificent 500-sqm apartment richly decorated with frescoes and stuccoes. It serves as the family’s private residence and can be made available for special occasions.

L’Aquila Suite – 45 sqm – Sleeps 2 + 2
Located on the ground floor with access from the courtyard, this suite features a spacious living area with a double sofa bed and large windows overlooking Piazza Sordello and the Ducal Palace.
A fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower complete the main level.
A staircase leads to a charming mezzanine bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe, and a small bathroom (WC and basin).
Includes air conditioning, satellite TV, and internet access.

Il Leone Suite – 35 sqm – Sleeps 2 + 2
Situated on the second floor (with elevator access), this elegant open-plan suite boasts an antique decorative fireplace and a large triple-arched window overlooking the Ducal Palace and the square.
It features a double bed, Bathroom with shower, a breakfast kitchenette with Nespresso coffee machine and minibar, and two single sofa beds.
Includes air conditioning, satellite TV, and internet access.

L’Arco Suite – 75 sqm – Sleeps 2
Located on the second floor (with elevator access), this spacious suite offers a spectacular living room with panoramic windows framing the city’s most iconic views.
Under the grand arch lies a double bed; a breakfast kitchenette with Nespresso coffee machine and minibar completes the space.
Bathroom with shower. Air conditioning, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi are provided.

Celeste Suite – 40 sqm – Sleeps 2 + 2
On the second floor (with elevator access), this suite includes a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower) and garden views.
The living room features a sofa bed and access to a second bathroom with shower.
Air conditioning, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi included.

TORRE WING
Glicine Suite – 70 sqm – Sleeps 2
Located on the third floor (with elevator access), this elegant suite includes a double bedroom, bathroom with shower, and a balcony with views of the Dome of Sant’Andrea.
Features air conditioning, satellite TV, and internet access.

La Torre Suite – 55 sqm – Sleeps 2
Rising four storeys high and crowned by a rooftop terrace with breathtaking 360° views of the city and its monuments, La Torre is a truly unique suite.
Accessible by elevator, the suite occupies the top of a 14th-century tower and is entirely frescoed, surrounded by large windows that overlook Mantua in every direction.
The bathroom with shower is located on a lower level. A spiral staircase inside the suite leads to the exclusive panoramic roof terrace.

Please note that due to its particular layout, La Torre may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues or for families with children under six years old.

The magnificent room features antique furnishings, impressive 13th-century frescoes (including the celebrated 8-meter “Tree of Life,” one of Europe’s earliest non-religious frescoes), a canopied bed draped in fine fabrics, and modern comforts such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, Sky TV, minibar, microwave, and coffee/tea facilities.
